Gas gauge problems come up every now and then, including the float assembly developing leaks. I was cruising the '62-'65 Mopar website looking for something unrelated and found a note from a member there. For a replacement float hit your local Ford dealer and request part number COAZ-9202-B Float Assy.

It comes as 2 separate brass floats that will supposedly work just fine to replace our stock hollow plastic floats. Sorry I can't verify this right now, so just posting for what it's worth, might help someone.

Fuel Sender Testing:

1] Remove Sending Unit from fuel tank.

2] Using Ohmeter on 0-100 scale connect one lead from Sedning Unit body to wire connection terminal in center of Sending Unit body.

3] While holding unit so that Sender Float Arm touches 'Empty Stop' on body the Ohmeter should read 73 Ohms, plus or minus 12.0 Ohms.

4] Raise Float Arm to 'Full Stop', Ohmeter should read 9.6 Ohms, plus or minus 1.0 Ohms.

NOTE: It is important that Sender be accurately calibrated. Accurate values cannot be obtained if the Sender has an error factor in excess of 1.0 Ohms in 10.0 Ohms. The Ohmeter itself should be tested for accuracy with a known good 10.0 Ohm resistor.
