Hi, Men,
That transmission arrived yesterday, tag says it's a NP4530, manufactured in Syracuse plant 1973. I downloaded a few pages I could find on it, telling me that the 4530 and the 445 are identical, just came out of different plants.
Input shaft has a 23 tooth count, tapered roller bearing, identical in every respect to the NP435 version, EXCEPT for the tooth count. Transmission is just on one inch longer in the actual case, reverse gear is a different layout as well. Internally looks just as robust as the 435. Looks to be in pretty good nick, should be able to put new bearings, seals and gaskets, if needed. Hard parts looks like I'm out of luck, but I have heard of blokes rebuilding gears and gear teeth, but a very expensive exercise.
At first glance I thought that they may have just changed the tooth counts on the input shaft and the corresponding countershaft gear to obtain the different ratios, but counting the teeth on 1st-2nd-3rd on the mainshaft, wasn't the case.
I'll gin around with it, still think if no major problems with hard parts, chuck a set of seals and gaskets in it, probably see me out.
Cheers, Dave 64
