Take the $7500 offered, then buy it back for their "salvage value". Ought to be at least $5000 in your pocket and you'll still have the truck to restore. It was already old and worn out so the offer is extremely generous!

QuoteCorsair Hey All, I'm somewhat new here. Been a lurker for awhile. Have owned my '68 D100 for about a year, I use it as a daily driver. I'm a big Mopar guy, have a few forward look cars. So not new to the world of Mopar but new to these trucks. Anyway, been considering converting it to 4x4. Wanted to keep it just like the stock W100's more or less. Keep leaf's

Google the wheel cylinder and master cylinder part #'s to find rebuild kits and/or possibly replacements. #'s are cast on them. I did the brakes on an old 60's IH dump truck last summer. NO wheel cylinders were available, but did find cup/spring/dust cap kits. Weren't cheap! Napa found the rubber hose from frame to rear axle after looking thru 50 pages of pictures in their boo

The early polys, prior to around 64, have a different crank that is a bit longer and the flywheel is bolted on with through bolts and a nut. They're a huge bitch to get off! So the early Swept/PG polys are not the same as later polys. The -3 poly difference is something along the lines of hydraulic lifters, timing chain and lower compression. I don't remember exactly, been a long, long

There is a pic of the location on pg 2 of the 66 FSM but it is quite indecipherable as to where exactly it is. Maybe somewhere on the front or top of the block, left side. I am not aware of it ever specifying -1 or -3. Factory specs don't show hardly any difference between the two. Is you truck a sweptline W500? If so, no way it is a 1960. First yr for the swepts was 61.

Yes, that's it exactly! A lot is done to the trucks aftermarket, which is not always how they came from the factory. Examples: I bought a truck from a wrecking yard that had a D200 cab swapped onto a D300 frame. Took a awhile to figure that one out. A local guy here has a 67 W300 with 70 W300 axles and 383/mechanical clutch swapped in. I put GM 10 lug 20" split rim dually wheels o

Kle, here are the factory issue specs. D100 were ALL 5 lug, tubeless 15" wheels from 61-71. There was an optional 16" tubeless 5 lug wheel available by special order. Rare as hell and I've never seen one. These were NOT split rim. D200 61-71, W200 61-71 and W100 61-68 were ALL 8 lug wheels, and if 16" they were split rim. W100 69-71 were ALL 5 lug tubeless 16" or 16.5&

QuoteKlebert L. Hall Okay, if you say so. I was just looking for wheel size / type / bolt pattern info so I could point the guy to sources. That said, there were certainly "half inch" sizes out there, although looking in my shop manual they were on tubeless, one piece rims. My '66 D-100 had split rim, tube type wheels on it. It was a pain in the ass, finding people who would

QuoteKlebert L. Hall What's on it now, the 16.5" split-rims? A lot us US manufacturers make single-piece rims that fit, if you want to go modern style tires. -Kle. There is no such thing as a 16.5" split rim. D100's came std with 15" 5 lug and 16" special order. Neither were split rims.

QuoteDraayer I'm not trying to make me a modern truck, I'm trying to make one that is safe to drive. I want power disk brakes and power steering and am wondering if the crown vic swap is my best bet. Are there better options? Will the crown vic front end fit? Thanks, The original truck is perfectly safe to drive. I've been driving them for 50 yrs w/o issue. There is no such thi

QuoteDraayer I just got me a 68 D100 long bed pickup. I would like a more modern drive train and leave the body rustic. I’ve read about the crown Vic front end swap but want to make sure that works. I’d also like to add a more modern 5 speed manual behind the 318, any recommendations? And is there a rear end with disk brakes that would bolt in or go in with minimum modifications? Thanks No, no a

That's mostly irrelevant. You can't order rings or bearings until you tear down the engine and determine whether it has been or needs boring and crank grinding. At that point you measure the bore and journals then order parts to fit. As for car vs truck, a 361 is a 361.

Quoteshamrocksdoc I don’t think it had the original tube, as it did not register any oil at all on the dipstick and it was at least about 9” long. From research it was started that it needed to be 8”. That is interesting to know that 7 quarts is OK. Just measured the tube on a poly out of a 66 W300. 8" It looks the same as the dozen other poly and LA's in my yard.

Gordo, the 300 fenders are different than all others. The lip detail is specific to 300's only. D400 and D500 fenders are the same. W500, D600 and larger are all the same. D300 and D400 will interchange as far as bolting on goes, but they will look very different, unless you do both sides. The wheel opening height on a 400 fender is bigger than on a 300 fender.

The slotted bolt is more likely an adjusting screw with a lock nut. Been 20+ yrs since I worked on a box, but I would make damn sure its the filler before "screwing" around with it. If its not leaking, its fine, unless it leaked itself dry decades ago. Get a factory service manual so u have a clue what you're working on. Bishko has reprints that are better than originals.

That sounds nice, but keep in mind that aluminum oxidizes when exposed to air and will be a dull gray in short order. That's why it was anodized in the first place.

Typically, chrome plating is done on steel grills, not aluminum. Google "aluminum polishing" before u ruin it with sandpaper or steel wool. Yes, the aluminum grills were anodized from the factory.

QuoteKaegi now with the carter I have tons more power and runs great but no improvement in mileage. I cant see engine stampings because the truck size water pump set up and compressor unit is in the way. going to pull a plug and measure the stroke. Or... is there a way to tell from casting numbers on side of block whether 361 or 413? 361 B, 413 RB Also, the massive water pump is indicative of

Between the 833 and the 318 is the bell housing and clutch. That is where another big linkage mod is required if you don't use stock stuff.

833 is NOT the close ratio 435, nor was it ever offered in the swepts. Not only do u need to know dia, u need to know the spline count and dia of the input shaft. Also the pressure plate style if u plan to replace it too.

Why wouldn't the floats rise and shut the needle valve? Never heard of too high of fuel pump pressure being a problem.

Lever on the hump in the floor. Only one clutch. Mounts about where the transfer case would be. Would be very technical to try and install between a transfer case and rear axle. Shifting on the fly is similar to shifting a transfer case or 2 speed rear axle on the fly.

I just looked at a dozen trannies in my yard and trucks. ALL in 69 and newer D200, W200 and W300 are the same. Long output shaft housing and trapezoidal bolt pattern. ALL trannies in trucks with output shaft parking brake drums have a short housing and shaft and a smaller square bolt pattern. This includes older 420's as well as 435's. U likely have the trapezoidal style, but it woul
