picture this, new girlfriend, I say hey lets take the old truck out to dinner. Well, we get going, about 2 miles from the house, and BANG, dead, nothing, couple of pops while cranking. fast forward, broken timing gear. Seems that the stock one had a set of nylon or plastic teeth on the aluminum cam gear, well 42 years of service, it decided to let go, and let go it did. I got the truck home, towed it with my corolla, yeah, toyota corolla, take that bitches! I bought a new set of steel gears and a single roller chain, some gaskets, a new high volume oil pump, pan gasket, and all that crap.
on a side note, all those plastic gear pieces were in the pan, looked like gravel in there, all packed in the pick up, huge mess.
I got it all put back together, TDC, all that crap, tossed in the HEI, it was 180 out, fixed that and it started.
So,how did it run Steve? IT RAN LIKE CRAP!
wondering what the hell, went over Terry's got a compression tester.
here are the results of the compression test

9 count em, 9 bent push rods, G*d dammit! ok, ok, I will spend another 60 bucks and see if this pig will run.
got a set of new hardened push rods on e-bay $45 and a new intake gasket at napa for $18.
just the week before all this happened, I had that truck well over 90 , it was sounding good, running good and I was happy as hell.
thinking about putting some paint on it this summer.

here is a thought, all those busted moparts might make a nice wind chime, hmmmmmm , ahhh the soft and gentle rattle of push rods bending in the wind..........keyrist! i have about lost it!
