Back from the grave. Dragged my Town Panel project to West Virginia and have no place to work on it. In the process of moving to Seattle with less room there. Nobody wanted the Townie project so I'm parting it out on eBAY. I guess the next generation isn't taking over. Good to see some of the old crew still here. Dave

There was a lot of talk, and there *are* Dana 44 fronts with disks, but nothing has happened. I gave up looking a while back. Still in the market tho... August roll-out planned. Dave

OK - it looks like I have the auto trans crank that wasn't bored the whole way to 0.940 ID on the crank. Rather than disassemble the whole mess, I made a 'lathe' out of my el cheapo drill press, a long impact socket and some hardware. On slow speed, using a mill bastard file, I took the OD of the bushing from 0.940 to 0.915 where it tapped in nicely (I gave the starting end a

What fractional/letter/number bit works out to be 0.940"? I'm thinking I have 0.010 - 0.020 difference here. And with a lathe, I could take it off the outside of the pilot bearing. Except for this issue, I would have had the engine in today.

Back from travel, yard work caught up (well, sorta), the DTA headers are here and I'm back to work on the Poly. Looking through the manual, I could not find a torque value for the flywheel bolts. Seems that I'm not the only one with this problem. Anyhow, I settled for 55 ft pounds as appropriate for that size bolt. After some thought, it seemed to me that I had to remove the clu

Jimmie - Thanks! As my memory slowly awakens, it seems that (maybe) there was a bolt on the bell housing that would not come off with the flywheel in place? Or maybe it just looked that way. The front sheetmetal is off - little in the way of clearance issues. I pulled them as a unit, so they should go back... Yes, We do this with two (or 3) people. Roller pilot bearing? Mine had a

Sorry for the stupid question, but it's been 3 yrs since I tore this 318 Poly in the Town Panel down. I'd rather look foolish and do it once than fuss with trying to do the improbable (been there, have the T shirt...). Do you put the pressure plate/clutch on before the bell housing or after? I seem to recall pulling the PP before the bell housing. Thanks in advance. Dave

IIRC the stroker crank available from MOPAR Performance is cast, tho it's only $400. Yeah, you get cubes, but also a longer stroke. Personally, I think boring it 0.090, going to billet rods, forged pistons balancing, bigger valves/porting, roller valvetrain, ARP bolts, dynamic balancing and EFI would give you a better product. Tho not cheaper <g> Can we hope for 500 hp at 9000 rp

Both Google and my web browser give me warnings: "What is the current listing status for sweptline.com? Site is listed as suspicious - visiting this web site may harm your computer. Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 2 time(s) over the past 90 days." I just cleaned up my desktop and 'lost' the link in the process. Dave

I have a couple of friends who have gone. They liked it. Apparently, they're big on package deals to get repeat business. Factory ammo only, and a bunch of it. No accidents reported. Dave

It is my understanding that the '-3' heavy duty truck engines used the hydraulic cam (and non adjustable lifters). That is what is in my -3 block. Dave

I'd try doing it w belting and some heater hose. Silicon RTV to hold together. I got front engine mounts for a Poly off eBAY a few months ago. Dave

I didn't look at the thermometer today, buy I noticed it was still 95 at 1730b as I was heading to Rattlesnake Springs. Indian Summer, I guess. We've hit 53 in the AM. d

Gary - For a 63 Town Panel, which would you order? DT067-58/60 Dodge Truck DT065-61/66 Dodge Truck I'm thinkiing the 58-60 as the Townie is really the old PG cab. From Dante's Mopar Car Parts, BTW Dave

QuotePwrWgnDrvr If u cover the rad around the fan, u will decrease the total cooling capacity of the rad. Seems it would be a bad thing to do. ^^2 I would not expect the electric fan needs to run at highway speeds in reasonable temps with a reasonable load on an engine (and cooling system) in good condition. If anybody has this setup, can you give us your experience? I plan to put a fan

JimmieD - Which brand of fan did you choose? Yeah - I know they are more efficient as pullers than pushers. (Not to mention that I don;t think they look all that good on the front of the rad...) As clearance is one of the motivating factors, I was considering 2 smaller units behind the rad offset to avoid clearance issues. As I have all that front end apart at the moment, moving the rad

Getting ready to bolt the Poly back into the Townie and am considering an electric fan. The setup was originally a slant six, I believe, and there was danged little clearance for the fan when I took it out (and some damage to the radiator). So I was thinking about one or more electric replacements. I planned to put in a thermostat and an over-ride switch. Any experience appreciated.

Is this a problem with inherently weak mounts, or just age? I'd never heard much about this. I picked up a new set for the 63 Townie; the old ones were shot. I attributed this to age, heat (and oil). And the fact that the PO had beat it pretty badly. The trannie mounts look good, so I plan to reuse them. Dave

JimmieD - Where do you find the 'Precision Rubber Products' stuff? A google search didn't help me much. At present, I'm looking for door rubber for the Townie. I'm getting ready for the windshield install. I planned to use some of those little nylon interior tools I picked up from HF. Do you think the chrome plate would stick after the heating/bending? (I hav

Howard - The Sacramento Mountains are northwest of me here in Carlsbad. My favorite berg is Weed, NM, home to Jimmy Goss and his fleet of Power Wagons. I might have used Guadalupe Mountains, but we have fond memories of the years we lived in Sacramento/Fair Oaks (California). When we lived in Jersey, I used 'Sourland Mountain Powerwagons' as we lived at the dizzying elevat

Putting the Townie back together, and dreaming of front disks. The link to Blackbirds Custom Trucks started this up again. I'm going to call them and see what gives. At $535 for a setup, these look pretty reasonable. What is the practical difference between these? If you had equally good small and large front axles and could put the disks on either, which would you choose? Your tho

Indeed, the gasket for the firewall is a flat rubber piece. I'm looking for the cover to the CV (?) joint at the end of the shaft. Googling didn;t help much, tho I suspect that there are a lot of pieces that might be made to work, Dave
