After reading every thing on the 727 and 518 I could find, the tail pieces don't enter change. The bolt pattern and oil passages are different. Some how I didn't think it would be that easy. There are 2 companies that make a bolt on overdrive but they cost over $2000. I can bolt a 518 to my big block with a $500 adapter or cut off the bell and bolt on a $300 special bell housing. These

Norm, with all the internet research I have done, the a518 is a 727 with a overdrive bolted to it. I cant find a step by step way to do the conversion or have talked to a person that has done it. My problem is that I dont think the newer trans will work with my big block. Also I have to stay non computer because of running propane. Kaegi,..sorry for mispelling your name. Spellcheck changed it. I

Norm, I talked to Randys and a couple other gear guys and for my 69-70 dana70 they said that I can go as high as 4:10 but for the 4:10 gear I need a different carrier (like you said) which is hard to find. The case is too small for 1/2" offset and the larger pinions. I guess I will stay stock for now and spend my time drooping in the 383 from my 67 d00. I don't have them side by side y

PwrWgnDrvr, I do have 8 lugs. So with the 10 digit vin#,in the future I will order parts for a 1969. Kaegi,I gave up looking for a 9' foot box so I am making one from two 6 1/2 beds. I need the 9 feet because I am going to run the 383 on propane and the tank is big. What is the offset on your 19.5 inch wheels? Are the tires uncommon or expensive?

Thanks Norm and Kaegi for the info. I will contact the gear guys after the holiday. I think I want to convert my dually axle to single like Kaegi's but I dont know the width or the year to look for. May be some thing newer with 3.73's.Does anyone know the stock width of a SRW dana70 for a 1969 D300? It has a 9' stepside bed. steve

I just found that my dana70 has a 1/2" off set on the ring gear and cant gear higher than 4/10. Will the overdrive unit from a A727 80's van work on a B727 for a 383. How well do they work? Do they make a big difference or am I wasting my time? steve
