its a lot easier to install a petronix system, and cheaper. i have run them on my mopars for years without issues. i also toss the factory coil in the trash and run an accell yellow coil, there too i have had years of issue free running down the highway.
on a side note, your symptoms also suggest a flooding in the carb. might be some trash in the needle/seat assembly not letting the fuel flow regulate properly. get her out on the highway and do a few full throttle blasts. really get her juices flowing. a lot of times it will dislodge the trash and solve the issue.
