Another thing that is often overlooked is the small raised areas,or pads,on the backing plates that the shoes rest on. This area is meant to have a light coat of lube (short fibre grease or anti seize). Some vehicles go for many brake rebuilds and have the backing plates cleaned with no lube applied to this area.Tight fitting shoes, bad wheel bearings , loose spindles, misfit wheels, and general wear contribute to grooving of these pads. The direct results of this grooving are grabbing, fading, or touchy brakes.
