a buddy is working on a 1960 model Chrysler product with push button 727. when you start it in neutral it is already in gear. is there an adjustment of some kind? another thing he found was that the lever for the kcik down is not connected and was pushed all the way forward. He thought maybe it was

That's possible, but it's more likely a shift adjustment, or dirt in a fluid passage causing that creep in neutral.
