Were 489's a common housing in a 66 D100 318 4 speed? My 67 shorty has one and just curious if many had them. Gordo

Gordo,
I redid my '65 D100 a few years back. It had a
Slant 6/A745 3spd and a 3.91 gear. I threw in a
'68 LA318, NP435 [6.61 granny] and swapped out
the 3.91 with a 2.94. Low is still a bit low....
but I can get a few more mph out of it. When
I'm cruising in 4th.... the 2.94 gear chunk is
great.
