So I just picked up a '62 stepside short bed D100. I also have a 360/727 combo out of a '78 motorhome. As you may have suspected, I'd like to put the 360 and 727 in the truck. Is this an easy swap? What issues may I run into? Thanks, Dave

Howdy Dave,
If your Utiline [Dodge term for stepsidethumbs up] is currently
a manual tranny truck, you'll have to cut out the bell housing
cross member. This is cut so that the sets of holes you'll see
on either side of the cross member are left with the "stubs" of
that member. These holes accept a bolt in "spanner" that bridges
the two stubs for stability. You'll have to locate a tail shaft
cross member for your 727. Your truck would take a '61-'68 style
tail shaft cross member [bolt in]. A '69-'71 style tail shaft
cross member could be used as well. If your Utiline has a Slant
Six in it now, you'll have to locate the proper engine mount
brackets to use with that 360. An A or LA 318 Sweptline left
side bracket will work on your 360 but the right side, IIRC, will
have to take a 360 specific truck or van engine bracket. As Terry
mentioned above, you'll have to address the parking brakes, the
drive shaft set up and possibly the radiator.
