Yes on both Earl and what is happening to engine. The engine had a harmonic sound at about 45 to 50 miles per hour. Unlike that of a rod bearing. It was very moderate. My trained ear picked up on it and I knew I would not sell it due to that.
I have since pulled the engine and I have purchased another.
I tore down my existing engine prior to purchasing another. It had one main bearing that appears to have had some fragment go through and do damage. Due to this main bearing the oil pressure had decreased supply to the rod bearings and would have soon caused them to fail.
Here is a very interesting part of this scenario,... I found an engine out of a very nice low mileage sweptline by using Craigslist.
Here is the crazy part of that transaction,.. The engine was purchased by me only to find out it had been pulled out of a sweptline that I recognized from pictures earlier (not absolutely positive of same one) of which were of a truck that Earl Kahn had wanted to purchase.
I had agreed to drive a couple hundred miles for a couple hamburgers and gas for a look see for Earl,... However the Sale to Earl fell through.
I am not writing this as some sort of sympathy for Earl,.. Not at all,.. LOL I am wring this because of what we sometimes see as "small world"
BTW The fellow who bought it has fabbed in a 2010 crown victoria front susspention and more to that sweptline. Gordo
