I recently found a set of tailgate hinges for my 1965 D100 tailgate. The truck has a long bed, the pie plate front lights and the rear brake lights are rather oval. They are 3/8 coarse. The threads in the holes are rusty and that is why u can't get them to go in all the way. Run a 3/8 tap in the hole to clean the threads and it will work just fine.
I went to a commercial fastener shop and obtained stainless steel, flat head, internal hex bolts. Install them with anti-seize compound and they will never be a problem to get out.
Cheap folks just coat the threads with axle grease.
