Dave,
As far as I know the swap should be a direct swap. The FPM shows both transmissions using the same front bearing retainer, bearing and seal, clutch release bearing, clutch disc, etc.
Keep in mind this is for 69-71.
Ma Mopar changed the part numbers for the clutch and the front bearing retainer for 69-71 on the 435 vs the 67-68.
They also used a one piece ball bearing up to serial number 166800 [production start 1967] and a tapered roller bearing after 166800 on the input shaft. so, there could be some differences for the earlier ones vs the later???
From what I can decipher in the FPM there were:
five basic NP 435's:
1). Early 61-67 NP 435 close ratio with ball bearing input shaft.
2). 67-68 NP 435 close ratio with tapered bearing input shaft.
3). 67-68 NP 435 wide ratio with tapered bearing input shaft.
4). 1969 NP 435 close ratio.
5). 70-71 NP 435 wide ratio.
70-71 NP 445 replaced the close ratio 435 and was full synchro.
If your truck is a 78, seems like it would be a drop in deal.....
I'm sure some of the other guy's should chime in if I'm wrong.
