I have to change things up on my D300. I have a low geared option rear axle ratio of 5.87. I have looked into many affordable conversions to choose from. So to my resolve for now I ask your opinion on RPM's Highway. QUESTION: Asking your opinion for an ideal RPM using a 360 cu. in. at 70 empty

Hi Gordo,
There are lots of possible answers here, most depend on what you want the truck to do...

Lower RPMs (e.g., 2300-2800) would give better mileage/mpg, but your ability to haul a load up a hill will be lower (downshift may be required).

Higher RPMs (e.g., 2900-3400) would give lower mileage/mpg, but you would have more pulling "oomph".

I would personally try to stay around 2800 to 3000 for your D300, if you'll ever haul anything with it. My W200 with a 360 (4.10 gears) turns about 3250 at 70 mph, gets 9 mpg in all situations but will tow/haul just about anything.
