I notice with TOTW in the "announcements" section, the topic is never expanded and they get relatavely few comments as compared to the old forum. Also, once replaced with a new TOTW, are the posts archived somewhere or lost in never never land?

The past TOTW threads are placed back into the forum, in chronological order.
There is currently no other way to post the TOTW and have it appear in every title, as the old format allowed.
That is why you are currently being asked to beta test a revised format.
That test format will allow the TOTW to be posted more like the old format.
