I started my 70 D300 with a 383 today for the first time in almost two months. It started but showed no pressure on the oil gauge --I quickly shut it off. The gauge will peg at the high end if the wire connected to the sending unit IS grounded. So check that first. If the gauge remains at zero, does the fuel gauge read normally? If your D300 is like my '71 D100, the fuel gauge has the instrument voltage regulator internal to it. The oil pressure gauge receives power from the fuel gauge internal voltage regulator.
