Only tip I have is that my '90 Dumbler Benz engineered W-350 has an ultra-cheesy hood release cable. Go to junk, make a left, keep going til you get to pure garbage. Plastic handle, plastic bracket, and the cable has some kind of plastic coating that gets good & funky so it sticks, then won't return to home position. Didn't do any good to trim the plastic coating on cable, various lubes had no effect. Try to find something pre-Dumbler Benz & maybe you will find better quality.

I've seen aftermarket universal choke cables that are all metal bracketry, metal pull wire, no inscription on knob and come in various lengths. Could be adapted to actuate a factory release mechanism.
