OK, so I took the advice off the forum and checked the wiring coming off the wiper motor. The attached picture shows the 4 different wires. One black, one blue, one yellow and one red. The yellow and red go to a double connector. Does this mean that I have a 2 speed wiper motor and just a one speed

Those colors indicate a variable speed motor. U definitely have the wrong switch. It is probably putting power to the wrong wire and u could burn the motor up. Get the right switch and it may solve all the problems.
There are actually 2 different variable speed motors and switches. A 3 wire and a 4 wire motor.
