That's one heck of a truck. I'd hate to have to buy the tires, though.
Cars is a pretty accurate movie in a lot of respects, and one of my favorites. Mater is a character I can really relate to. They missed the boat on the portrayal of I 40 in that part of the world however. Anyone who's ever driven a big truck across that part of I 40 knows that it's anything but flat. When loaded heavy I found that it saves a couple gallons of fuel to take the old 66 even though it's some 15 miles longer.
Back to the topic at hand, one of our neighbors when I was a kid was in the army, don't recall his rank or MO, but for some reason he did get to take an army truck home evenings and weekends. His kid and I used to play in the back of it when it was home. It was a 69-71 D100 standard cab Utiline, painted and marked just as Paul said, no star, just had the Army markings and numbers on the door and license plates.
I can remember this from almost 4 decades ago becuase changing license plates was one of the earliest mechanical jobs I got to help my dad with, and I noticed the neighbors truck didn't have the same plates as everything else around. Can't even remember my old friends name, but I remember the truck.
