There's no reason a pic needs to be bigger than say 50k. The attached picture is under 30k and is large enough to see all the details. A 50k picture should load in 2-3 seconds on a dialup. The eye can only recognize 72 dpi on a screen. More than that is a waste of bandwidth. If someone were printing a color brochure then more dpi would be needed... We're just looking at pics on a screen here so for our purposes I'd make the maximum size to upload 100k.
