You can change back to the threaded view for the main message list and for the reading list if you are a registered user. Go to the Control Center then Forum Settings.
We debated what to set as the default setting and went with the "board" instead of "threaded" list for the main message list. When reading a thread it defaults to one message with threads for the follow-on messages.
