I've had the best luck soldering a wire directly to the back of the tail light housing and running it to the frame, that would solve the ground problems. However if it's just the brake lights that aren't working and the turn signals do work, then the problem is somewhere before the turn signal switch.

Last Optima batteries I bought were in 2005, the four yellow tops them are still powering my IHC cabover, traditional battery service in a big truck seems to be about a year and a half. The red top I put in the Trailduster over a decade ago still fires it up even in extreme cold after sitting for a month. I keep waiting for it die, but it hasn't yet. If you got the money, go with an Op

NP540OD will fit where the NP540 will, but they are a bit scarce, and parts are scarcer. There was a yard in SO Cal that had a couple of each, but I lost the link. You might need to get the input shaft from the Dodge version of an NP540 to put in the NP540OD to make it work, as I understand the case, input shaft and bearing retainer were the main differences between the various aplications of the

My experience with air ride is in big rigs and not pickups, but from what I've seen you really don't want air ride in the front, unless you want something that has the handling characteristics of a small boat on rough water. Peterbilt and Volvo have both offered air ride front suspensions, from what I've heard all the Petes were recalled and retrofited with leaf springs within a co

That's one cool ride. I wonder how hard it would be to do that to a Duster.

Ain't no other website like this for anything, this here is one of a kind and can't be duplicated, but... Allpar.com isn't specifically a truck website, but they do have some pretty good info on Dodge trucks. They also have a forum with a section for trucks.

That's a good answer. There's any number of things that it could be used for both in drilling and pump setting work. One awesome truck for sure.

QuotePwrWgnDrvr The Cummins 6 does bend the D100 axle and alter camber. My tires will have steel belting sticking out around the inside edge and rest of tread be great. Ive tried bending the axle myself by lifting the whole truck on a jack in the center of the axle. It wont bend. Damn tuff steel like Jimmie said! My dad and uncle did the axle on his cabover with a 20 ton jack sitting on a railroa

Quoteshartwig try to find one for a 70, next to impossible, one for a 70 with AC , impossible. I have a 70 that had factory air with a bad heater core, Checker auto had the non air heater core in stock, nobody in town listed the factory air heater core. My 70 now has the standard heater.

QuoteJimmieD As most everybody here knows brakes work on the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics: Entropy. Motion is converted to heat by the brake system which is then dissipated into atmosphere. The more moving weight the more heat transfer required to stop. The more heat, the more disc that's needed to absorb it. Getting into discs of a size to stop a loaded semi means one huge chunk of rotating i

Funny thing, I got it all back together and it all works, except the horn doesn't blow. Apparently the steering shaft isn't grounded, everything works if I ground the shaft. With dual exhaust on the 383, a horn is probably not neccessary, the motor would drown it out.

QuoteMoparNorm Can't see well enough to work or drive, so I've been pretty much the boy toy of MoparTina...but I'm managing... Man, that's got to be work, I've seen pics of how hard she runs things. Poor little Jeep on three wheels out going where Humvees fear to tread.

QuoteGordon Maney I appreciate your enthusiasm, and admit to never having been asked if I cover Plymouth vehicles. I see the link. Write to me about your truck, if you would, please. b1pw1948 at earthlink dot net Will get on it as soon as I get a chance. Right now I'm in the process of getting back to work and all the associated stuff that comes when you are a year gone from the employer ta

The switch on the NP435 was a screw in affair in the top of the trans near the reverse shift rail. Clean off the top of the trans, you may find the spot for the switch just has a plug in it. If it's not drilled out it shouldn't take too much to swap the trans top with one that has a switch. Backup lights were a separate light on all bed styles to 71 and the Utilines past that. The orig

Just the plain old Autolites. Been using them for years, never had a plug go bad. I like their wires too.

Never had any trouble getting air out of an LA cooling system in a Sweptline, make certain the heat valve is open, and take the top heater hose off the heater core while filling it. It's the second highest spot in the cooling system, so with it open all the air will come out there while you're filling it. When you start getting coolant out of it put it back on, you will have less than a

On the LA some of the water pump bolts go into the water jacket, use anti sieze or grease on them or they have a bad habit of freezing and breaking off when you need to remove them the next time. They are a bear to drill out if they break off in the block.

Looking at it again, he's done the opposite of what I've thought of. I was thinking about the 65 four eye front end on my 70, he put the 70 front on his 65.

What's with all the yellow lately? Not complaining, I like it. That is a sweet truck, and a 392 makes it sweeter I'm sure. Nothing like the feeling of an old Hemi or a Sweptline.

The handiest thing I've found is the online sites of the various parts houses. My little brother works for Checker, and I've had him tell me parts weren't available that I was able to find online. If you have the part number when you go in you will never hear "we can't get that".

I'm trying to undo what a previous idiot did to the steering column on my 70, and need some help. They had a steering wheel off an earlier truck on it, and to make it fit they pulled the c clips off the steering shaft and pushed the outer coulmn down a bit, and in the process of their monkey rigging left a few peices out. I think I found the parts in a truck in the yard that had the column t
