There are lots of possible answers here, most depend on what you want the truck to do...
Lower RPMs (e.g., 2300-2800) would give better mileage/mpg, but your ability to haul a load up a hill will be lower (downshift may be required).
Higher RPMs (e.g., 2900-3400) would give lower mileage/mpg, but you would have more pulling "oomph".
