Quoterjstick QuotePwrWgnDrvr Interesting that u found the lockout hubs so quickly. Supposedly they are out of production and hard to find. They are easy to install. Remove the 6 bolts on the end of the axle hub, remove the drive plate, install the lockout hub with the bolts that come with it. Well I found lockout hubs - Milemarker ones (11035-01) that are supposed to fit. They are not origin

QuoteKaegi the big knob is a PTO control and someone put a transfer case knob on there for some reason. it has nothing to do with shifting the trasfer case. it is there to control the winch. see owners manual or shop manual for winch operation. the t handle is problaby just a hand throttle. poor mans cruise control. lots of big trucks and winch trucks run them so when running a winch or dum

QuoteKaegi I looked and see your turcdk doesnt ahve a winch. does it have a dump bed? take pics of the chassis and post and we can tell you. I just checked again - you got me a bit excited but unfortunately no dump bed. Perhaps in some earlier life it had a winch?

Hi all, I've got a couple of simple questions regarding the knobs/levers on my dash that I thought this group would be able to quickly answer. The two in question are: 1) Large knob above the wiper control with shift pattern (4L,N,2H,4H). Knob looks like it either turns or pulls out. What is its purpose? The sign immediately above indicates PTO control knob but I am unfamil

Quoteswptln Lockout hubs are still available from Warn Industries. They have three diferent types: 9072 19 sline axles these would be 1/2 & 3/4 tons, Dana 44. 38826 30 spline axles 3/4 & 1 ton. 62672 35 spline Dana 60 axle. I'm not sure if they will work on your truck???? Summit Racing has all three on there website with downloadable instructions too. I've counted -

Abex it is then. I'll keep looking for a re-lining shop. I did a quick Internet search yesterday but didn't turn up anything obvious. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

QuotePwrWgnDrvr I checked with a local buddy who has more early W300's than me (he has 4, I have 2). He says that there was a Selectro hub made for this axle, but he does not know the number. The later hub mounts with 8 bolts, same as the number of lugs. The early hub has 6 bolts. Is the hub u found available? If so, it could be the right one. The Warn hub is #M14. I have 3 axles, all with

QuoteHobcobble I have access to some NOS lock-outs from an old dealership that sold Dodge, Jeep, Kaiser vehicles. Its been a while since I've seen the inventory but, if memory serves, there were some Selectro and other WARN hubs available. If I knew which original mfg. part or model number to look for, I'd check and see..... John I'd be very interested in getting a set of lo

QuoteHobcobble You can probably find a 10 spline NP435 pretty easily. That NP420 is a nice, solid, dependable tranny though.... John Well since I don't really know the difference anyway - I'll stick with the NP420. If I have issues it's nice to know I could swap out to a NP435. Thanks

QuoteKaegi if you learn how to do points correctly they will serve you well and you will save the money otherwise spent on electronci ignition. elcectronic ignitions are great but can have issues as well. the stock unit is an 8 inch remotely mounted power brake unit. I forget the brand of the stock one . it might be a Hydravac. what city do you live in? if you can find a relining shop, som

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Tranny in a 61 is a NP420, not 435, so both first and second are non-synchro gears. U have the somewhat scarce single rear wheel hubs on the back and looks like no lockout hubs on the front. If so, its a real bad idea to be driving it around in full time 4wd! So of course the experts here are correct - NP420 stamped right on the data plate (pic attached for all to see). Acti

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Did they give u a return option if they don't work? Ive never seen those on the early 6 lug Dana 70F axle. It looks like the hub that goes on the later 8 lug axle. Well that's not good. I got all excited about adding a new part - only to find out they're actually not available. That'll teach me to jump too fast. I did type in 1961 Dodge W300 and this

QuotePowerMan I've bought several electronic ignitions from Summit Racing but can't seem to find them on Summit any more. Jegs still has them: Jeg's 318 Electronic Ignition Conversion The NP420's have a cast iron top cover while the NP435's have an aluminum cover and have a synchronized 2nd gear. It would be a good idea to find some locking hubs for the front if you

QuoteHobcobble With no lock-out hubs, you're still turning the front axle internals in 2wd. With lock-outs, just your wheels are turning. If your axle gear ratios are 4.88 or lower, you'll be winding the engine out pretty good trying to make 60mph. A local Sweptline friend of mine had some beefier linings made up for his W300. The drums are made of "unobtanium".... s

QuotePwrWgnDrvr Yes, with the transfer case in 2wd, the engine is not connected to the front end. But, without lockout hubs, the wheels will turn all the front axle gears and shafts when the the truck is moving. It is foolish to put that kind of wear on all those parts, especially the U-jts in the wheel hubs. Ok so you're firmly in the lock out hub camp. Good to know as I've seen peo

Quoteswptln Nice looking truck RJ and welcome to the forum too. Doing some inspections on the driveline will be a lot of help to determine some of your issues with the truck. The steering can be adjusted at the box if there is play or it could be tie-rod end, draglink etc. Updating the ignition system to a Mopar Performance electronic and Taylor sparkplug wires are worth it's weight in gol

Hi all, I've recently purchased my first Power Wagon - a 1961 W300. I'm told via 3rd and 4th person that it was originally a military vehicle, then was sold to a fire department, then to a fireman, then to the PO. And now it's mine. I moved it from Ohio to SC. I've only just received it and have very little experience so far but here were my early observations: 1
