I just found that my dana70 has a 1/2" off set on the ring gear and cant gear higher than 4/10. Will the overdrive unit from a A727 80's van work on a B727 for a 383. How well do they work? Do they make a big difference or am I wasting my time? steve

Higher ratios are possible, but you have to change the carrier. 4.10 was the carrier "split" or "break" ratio. 4.10 and lower use that carrier, 4.10 and higher use a different carrier.
All Dana's are set up that way, with the axle type and size determining the carrier break.
Talk to someone at Dynatrac, Currie, Randy's, or any gear shop to order the correct carrier for the ratio you need.
