So, sources disagree whether the camshaft gear on my truck should have a 3 bolt attachment or a 1 bolt attachment (I am redoing the leaky timing cover gasket, and I figured might as well do the chain set while it's off - especially if it turns out to have a nylon gear). I have just ordered one

Most stock engines had the 1-bolt, about the only ones that had the 3-bolt cams were the Hemi and 70-72 BB HP engines.
Any BB can be upgraded to the 3-bolt, as long as you get the timing chain set to go with the cam.
Have heard some say the dowel pin on the 1-bolt is a weak link, but probably isn't a big deal unless your building a high horsepower high revving engine.
More a matter of preference....
Although, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the bigger trucks with premium engine options might have a 3-bolt cam, but other than that. all should have the 1-bolt stock.
