VIN breaks down like this:
25 = W500
8 = V-8
1 = Warren MI
318168 = 315000 was the first numbered truck for 1964, your truck was Sweptline number 3,168, which places it very early in the model run, most likely September, Oct. 1963, that is why some not so astute DMV worker assigned it a 1963 VIN.
Your block will have a "Born-on Date" cast into the passenger side normally but it may be anywhere.
There may be a serial number on the front of the block, below the head, any numbers you can find and post will be helpful and I'll try to track them down.
