I size the TOTW pic (in the upper left corner) to 320x240 and reduce the JPG quality option to keep the pic size down, the current pic is 20K. I do not include the full-size pic in the body of the post out of consideration for dial-up users.
On the other hand, the current size of the MAIN forum page is 280K of which 65K is the forum text headers, 47K is image files including the GIF links at the top of the page, 42K for formatting style sheets, but the biggest offender is the scripts to run the automated Sweptline Registry feed at a total of 126K.
The Forum index page is a little less at a total of 224K.
If you are up for trying another template, it would be pretty easy for me to make a template that has no Registry feed, or TOTW or GIF links.
