yep,ive done it that way,except i usually used concrete tie wire to the bottom of the bed or a frame crossmember,dont forget the duck tape!Quote

Trey, Ive dealt with the slip yoke seal this way:
Unbolt the shaft from the rear axle, slide it forward to get the u-j out of the yoke, lift the shaft up and wire it to the frame, or once, I just took a ratchet tie-down from one frame rail - wrap around the shaft once - hook onto the other frame rail - ratchet down. Leaving it in the trans stops the leak, speeds up re-install and eliminates stashing the greasy, dirty thing somewhere in the cargo area. Also, duct tape around the u-j cross to keep the caps on.
