I removed and tested the ignition module (orange box) and the coil and they are fine. I noticed only 5-7 volts going to the coil from ballast resistor. I did notice a weak connector at the bottom of ballast so I fixed it. (Thanks Terry now it starts up) The volts went up to 7-8 volts but still seemed low... Doesn't coil need 12 volts?

I bypassed the ballast and it runs much better. Am I in any danger in doing this? On the other end of the firewall (drivers side) there seems to be some other sort of resistor as well...




My truck does not have the points system. It was converted to electronic ignition... why do we still need a ballast resistor?

Before I bypassed the ballast, I noticed my truck seemed sluggish especially going up hill. Low spark? Now that it is bypassed, it seems to have much more power.
