The front axle on D300s is what makes the whole truck lower. On the W300s the front axle is basically a striaght line from the hub straight under the springs to the other side. The Ds the axle drops down under the spring s abit making the whole chassis lower. no blocks in the back between leaves and axle either. W's Defintley need steps for sure! or a roll out boat ladder! its all about preference. I like the 19.5s for a couple reasons. quiet ride, better mileage and real easy to steer. In fact i have a stock PS set up for the truck but will probably not use it as I can palm steer it with a coffee in my other hand. Getting in and out isn't so bed but I am going to shorten and narrow the stock running boards and re install at some point. take aabout 3 inches

MIne as well buy ford wiht 3.55s! just kidding. I dont think you wil improve mileage with an OD in these trucks expecialy with 3.55s I used to get 14 to 16 with my 67 LA 318 powered W200 with 4.10s but then again I am happy driving around 60 to 65 all day. When I put 36s on it the mileage was the same but top cruising speed went up to 72 or so.

they are not used in Dodges that I have ever seen and when youchekc the ratios in the FSM none are OD. As far as I know only GM and maybe ford used the NP540 trannies with OD.

No such tranny exists without changing the bell housing and fabbing new rear engine mounts. taller tires will get you more top end. or gear change. or if Stak still makes it the have a 3 speed Tcase and one of the speeds is an overdrive. In the end taller tires is the least expensive way. even a tire 2 or 3 inches taller than what you have makes a considerable difference.

I would keep it a D. They are more practical to drive daily for jobs. they turn around better than my 02 Neon! Easy to steer, good ride if has rear shocks. And a Dodge so they always start and get 10 mpg loaded or not! And they tow wonderfuly with the flat 34 inch heavy duty frame. sometimes better mileage. I towed for 3 years wiht this one maybe 4 or 5 trucks a year on trailer or falt to

for shortest lasting clutch master cylinder rebuild. haha I rebuilt the one on the H&M truck last year so it could be driven around to body shop and test drives etc. now I have put about 350 miles on it this week and already fading. it was real pitted and was hoping it would last longer. time to put up the dough for a new one.

is that when they first coined the term "Utiline"? Because Dodge trucks before 39 had stepside/utiline style beds or were sold as cab/chassis. for a few years in the 30s they even had all steel bed floors just like the 80s version!
