everything pretty much after the 60s has a vacuum power brake unit. the corvette brake system did not fail because it had a vacuum power brake unit. it may have failed because your power brake unit went bad. in that instance it would become VERY hard to stop. that will happen on any vehicle with a failed vacuum booster. The hydravac was used on trucks earlier than 67. either mounted on the fender or under tha cab. it is a remotely mounted vacuum booster where as the later trucks it is moutned directly behind the master cylinder. Even with manual brakes your truck should stop on a dime. Let us know what system you have. There is an easy trick to test a vacuum booster.
