Ammeter, this is a current problem,.pardon the pun. winking smiley

This is in reference to the 71 that is going on ebay. When I bought it it wasn't charging. I checked the alternator and it was bad. I replaced the alternator and it still showed discharge.

However when I went out to the alternator with my tester, 14.6 (approx) was showing on my tester. Well, all is, and has, been working just fine. Battery is holding a nice charge, night driving
is just fine. All is good except the operator does not know the present condition due to ammeter showing only the discharge side.

I was just going to install a under dash volmeter and forget it.

Reading the Hobcobble thread made me decide to see if simple solution is available. If it requires learning anew to the point of sines and half field,... I just will voltmeter it. LOL

Here goes,.. The truck has been rewired. I am not sure that I desire to follow the newer rewire due to a little arthritis.
Rewire is nicely done on either side of firewall. I trust its integrity as the person must have been reasonably prolific.

None the less the charge side of the ammeter does not go to the right, only discharge.

Ground one of the fields?
Run a extra wire to the ammeter? Naw,.. I think I burned some wires
once doing that.

So, what is the best fix and how? I surely don't know. Doubt I have ever passed this way before. Gordo
