Because after the stock one in my truck died after 50 years, I replaced it with a standard mechanical one and it lasted a couple years and about 5000 miles. They're all made in China nowadays, too. I could try NOS, but they are all as old as me now...
Meanwhile the solid-state one in my Polara, in addition to fixing the dash/headlight pulsation problem (not an issue in the PW) has worked well for 8 or 10 years and maybe 50,000 miles?
Seems like it's worth a try, anyway? I have a mechanical one on order, if I can find a solid-state I will stick it in the truck and put the mechanical one in the glove box, just in case.
