Back about 18 months or so ago, I asked about window wipes for the door glass on my 71 D300. I did order two pair and finally got around to fitting them, since there isn't a lot I can do under present conditions. I removed what was left of the outside , original wipe without scratching the pain

It's been a while since I messed with the regulators and windows.
If you remove the window crank and unscrew it from the door it may allow the window to drop below the top of the door.
I can't remember if there is a rubber stop for the glass lower channel, you could remove that to allow the glass to lower below the top of the door, this way you would not have to possibly remove the crank part of the regulator.
