Back about 18 months or so ago, I asked about window wipes for the door glass on my 71 D300. I did order two pair and finally got around to fitting them, since there isn't a lot I can do under present conditions. I removed what was left of the outside , original wipe without scratching the pain

You can take the glass out. If you open up the door panels to access the regulators, the glass is (in every one I've looked at) just held in the carrier by friction with the rubber "gasket". You can lift it out and at least drop it down in the door, if not actually turn it and get it out the window hole.

Fair warning, if you have that little clearance between the wipes and the glass, the new wipes might well make the space too tight for the window to go up and down.

Also, once you've removed the glass, it might be too loose in the carrier in future, and keep slipping out when you roll the window down. My truck was a desert truck, and the rubber is all hard and dried out, so the windows have always done that if I'm not careful, but you might have more to lose.

Good luck!
