Plastic is cheaper to produce than metal. It being better is your opined conclusion. Not all changes are better. Just like going from 8 to 5 lugs was not an improvement. It was however certainly a change and certainly cheaper. Just like going from cast iron t-case covers to aluminum. The latter is not better. Just like going from a free society to socialism is not better.. Change is not always better!! LOL I couldn't resist!!
