Sorry to mince words words here, but when somethin don't run it's really helpful if people describe things in a way that's not confusing, like "turning over" used for starting (a term I can't stand myself). Turning over means the engine's turning, like "cranking", which it can do all day without starting, NOT the same thing.
Sorry, but you can pull the plugs, wires, distributor cap off as well as the carburator, and if the battery and starter are good, it will "crank" just fine.
Cranking is cranking, firing is firing.
