It seems that "stickies" and "announcements" on the message list page give no indication that there are any replies to them, much less new replies. I sure dont spend the time opening them to see if there is something there. (I use threaded format)

The Announcements; we'll have to investigate that, but the last post in a "sticky" thread, that has already been read, will have the unread posters name noted in blue at the right hand of the screen.
