last year I sold a 61 D300, 9 foot utiline with single 19.5s and dump bed to a younger guy with super busy landscaping biz in Seattle. I talked to him yesterday and that has become the company workhorse. driven almost daily. almost 60s years old and great tool. I completely rebuilt the poly and put in bigger cam, rebuilt the trans, brakes etc.

dodge wasnt the only one. lol. the GM, IH and ford 1 tons were probably the same way until the same period. Well into the 80s and maybe later rear bumpers even on half tons were an option

Rear shocks were only an option on 1 ton Dodges back then. MOST never had them. the improvement in ride quality and safety is amazingly better. I have had them both ways and wont run a truck without rear shocks ever again.

Getting closer. the shop bending the steel had issues. They ended up having to use heat. I hope to have them done in a couple weeks

on my 61 the cross member that has the carrier bearing is located farther back in the frame than on my 66. does anyone know when this change occurred? I will soon have an extra 66 driveline and need a 61. if anyone wants to trade let me know

if you search new leece neville charging systems a complete set up is in the thousands new. I see them on sweptline fire and commercial trucks once and a while

I agree. I haven't had to buy a napa echlin brand one in years so dont know if they are as good as they used to be but they were just like factory stuff in the past.

Leece neville is top of the line stuff. I think the Chinese junk at parts stores is not in the same league. does leece neville make a direct replacement for swepties? or do you run there alternator as well

ya you cant rely on anything from china. eg condensers have about a 50/50 chance of working out of the box. I started buying hi perf condensers like accel.

I have nothing but bad luck with solid state. cheap taiwan parts. the stock ones last 50 years so I figure why change.

78. Update
out of the 10 sets were going to do, still unspoken for are 3 W300 sets and 2 D300 sets. price may drop a little after I get final bill from machinist. he tends to quote high initially.

No pics yet I haven't made them. my machinist is waiting for me to tell him how many pins to make. I can post pics of originals when I get them back from him. I have had D300s with and without. night and day difference.

I am making a batch of factory type rear shock mounts for D and W300 1961 to 1971 (possibly will fit 1 ton Power Giants as well). They will look just like factory mounts. I am thinking of making 5 pairs of each. 4 sets for D300 and at least 1 set for W300 are spoken for. Cost is $220 a set. I have the shock part numbers as well. Makes a huge difference in driving quality and ride quality. n

yep can probably just shorten the 1 ton driveline and change the yoke at trans

360 would be less work for sure. only have to figure out rear cross member for trans. you can run a remote tranny cooler if you don't have the radiator for the auto. someone here probably has the rear cross member. might be able to make the half tone one work

the 61 to 71, D300 and up frames are all 34" wide and flat from front to back. that is an industry standard on truck larger than 1 ton to this day. the dodge 1 tons are built back then like a medium duty truck. I can buy a trailer hitch for a 2017 dodge 4500 or 5500 and it will fit my d300. the steering column on the 1 tons and up comes through the floor in a different spot than 1/2 an

it never reeks fuel. works great. I have had less problems with sloshing out the cap on 61s than with later trucks. it vents outside the cab. eventually I am going to a frame mounted tank and vented cap then its all a non issue.

well when I put a vented cap on my 61s with a vented tank fuel pours out in corners. correct on the line. it comes out of filler neck, crosses back over the top of the tank, gores up into the passenger side pillar to the roof, turns back down and exits through the floor. the reason it will leak on a vented cap is because the vented cap will leak under enough pressure. having the vent tube a
