I'm sorry if you got mad Jimmie, but what you posted was not correct. My comments had nothing to do with your and Terry's exchanges. You said: "I really don't know why they added the resistance factor, to lower voltage to 5VDC, other than the 5VDC voltage regulator can prevent perfect direct readings. That means that otherwise the temp gauge would fluctuate every time ther

Jimmie, you have the wrong idea about why the guages don't move erratically with the voltage swings. The guages don't follow the sending units because of the design. The guages are by design slow to move. They use the similar principle of the voltage regulator. Current through the guage causes a bi-metal strip to bend slightly. The design of the guage causes the needle to move farther t

JimC, We need to get together sometime. I'll bet I can fix the problem. I've never had a guage problem that I couldn't fix, and yes, I have had guages apart. They're really not that complicated. They are fragile however and takes a lot of care to keep from damaging them. I hope you are planning on getting together when Russ (other Russ) is here.

154. Re: pixs
That black metal guage surround was called the non-glare panel, it was optional but most 69s had the plastic bezel just like the 70-71s. Maybe it was the plastic one that was optional but it seems to be the most common on 69s.

WF, I'm pretty sure that all Sweptlines had the in-guage regulator. It's hardly correct to call it a regulator though, since it just opens and closes so that the voltage to the guages goes from zero to twelve volts making an average of about 5-6 volts. Because of the way the guages work they don't respond fast enough to move as the voltage varies.

The year was 1947 Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little over 60 years ago, witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico . This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations. However, what

JohnB lives on the west side, Powder Springs if I remember correctly. I just remember that it was a long drive from my house.

I hope you can make it. It would be nice if we could get a few of the trucks together. I'm not sure how many running Swepts there are in Ga.

Russ Roth (the other Russ) is going to be here around August 8th or 9th. He was here a couple of years ago and we went over to JohnB's house and had a great visit. I don't have the exact date yet but It will be fun if all of us Georgia Sweptliners could plan on getting together and maybe having a beverage and bbq and talk trucks. We can have it at my house in Lawrenceville, or where eve

Some were and some weren't apparently. This is getting like the plated vs painted hood hinge thing, LOL. I don't think ISO standards were around when Sweptlines were made, they just did what they wanted to do on the assembly line.

Were transfer cases painted then? The 205 in my truck appeared to have never been painted. It is black now but I don't remember it having any paint at all on it before.

Norm, I hope you are right because I do plan on buying a new one when the house gets sold. I think PT Cruisers are the best designed small car ever and I want a new one while they are still being made.

Jimmie, my stating that Scott's forum has a certain feature is not comparison, it's a statement of fact. Take it as you wish, this is my last comment about it. If you don't visit Scott's forum you're missing out on some good Sweptline and Town Wagon conversations and pictures.

"It's not about comparing this site to other sites." I agree, but I didn't compare this site to Scott's. I simply said that There is a buy/sell section on that site. You also might note that I said I always come to this site first thing in the morning. "about what this site has to offer, which is a nice software environment, excellent organization, easy access,

Have you guys (and girls) heard anything like this? I was talking to a guy the other day and he saw my PT Cruiser. He asked me if I liked it and I said yes, I'm going to buy a new one when I sell a house that I have for sale. He said he had a friend who owns a garage and has a PT Cruiser in his shop that won't run due to the computer being bad. He said he can't get one because they

I think I agree With Terry. I like the layout and ease of use of this forum and I come here first thing in the morning most every day. I can drink my coffee and read the posts without having to navigate around too much. If I have something to sell, or something I want, I can always just post it here. I wouldn't boycott it if it exists but I don't see any need to create more work for the

I don't think it's adviseable to use a flex fan with a fan clutch. I'm stumped on this one. Unless that blade had been bent and straightened out before I can't imagine just the air pressure on the blade bending it like that.

What are you guys? Wimps? Afraid of a few sparks? BTW, that welder along with all of my tools were stolen out of the basement not long after that pic was made. Fortunately I was insured.

I was looking through some old pics and saw this one from about thirty years ago. I'm making the left (or was it the right?) tailpipe for my 67 W100. It had dual exhaust and I couldn't get a pipe for the side that wasn't stock on a 67 truck. I bought two stock exhaust pipes and made a mirror image of the stock pipe with three cuts and welds. It worked great. That was the old days,

I really can't figure this one out. I'd like to see a pic of the fan. I have that same fan on my truck and it's made of heavy steel. Also, the blades aren't flat so that would add strength from bending. It would have to flatten out where it's bent or either the curved section would have to tear. I would bet that the force of the air it was pulling would not be enough to b

Gary, rotate your water pump with the fan belt off and see if you feel a rough bearing. A bad water pump will cause that. I had a friend who had it happen and the first time it cut his transmission lines. He had it fixed and a new fan installed and soon it did it again and this time it sliced his hood. It turned out that the water pump had a bad bearing and the vibration caused the fan to break.

The 69 mouldings are a little bit different than the 70-71. The dark line in a 69 has a textured finish about like 200 grit sandpaper while the later ones are painted black. The line on the 69 mouldings appear as a dark grey, so I think it would be noticeable if you used a 69 moulding but you could probably change it. I love those upper mouldings on a Sweptline. I went to great lengths and $$ to

The passenger side lower screw was so rusty that I had to use a chisel to start it turning. The drivers side was not as bad but I had to use a hand impact driver to get it started. The upper screws looked like new and came out easily. Liberal doses of PB Blaster helped.

One of the local guys who posts mostly on the other forum came over yesterday. We put new channel and beltline wipers in both his doors. I did it by myself when I did my doors but I found out it's a lot easier with two people. It's actually not a bad job as long as you know about the two hidden screws in the vent frame.

Actually most of it is made by the same company I think so quality isn't a problem from any of the suppliers. I think Metro Moulded Products makes the door seals that you get from Steele, Klesters, or Restoration Specialties. I usually buy my stuff from Restoration Specialties but any of the three I mentioned are nice to deal with.

In the early seventies when they went to the hardened seats the head design changed. The newer style head uses a smaller plug and it doesn't use the aluminum tubes with O rings.

I vote for the partially blocked radiator. I had the same problem when I bought my truck twelve years ago. I took the top off of the radiator and found 17 blocked tubes. I had a four row core put in it when I put the 440 in it.
