Jim, do you know what the code is that is turning on the check engine light? It might not have anything at all to do with the transmission. I'll be glad to scan it if you want to bring it over sometime. You can also get the code by turning the ignition on-off-on-off-on, and counting the blinks of the CE light. Then call me or google the code. What does this lady look like? Would it be wo

QuotePaul in Kempner, TX Why don't you look at the Toyota owner's manual or ask a Toyota service manager? Hey, you aren't the one who asks a guy in California how to register a vehicle without a title in Maine, are you? I have always used the "best source" for answering my own questions and for answering questions posted on the forums. I just want to know if I am

Ben, the truck is looking super good. I'd love to see it in person. I gotta' agree with Trey about the chrome vent windows and division bar, it would really shine on your black truck. It does add about $300 and a lot of work and time to the project though. You have to completely dis-assemble the division bar and vent frames, which means drilling out all of the rivets that hold the asse

Jim, I had it listed on CL a while back but it's not listed anywhere at the moment. I've had some inquiries from Nebraska, Ohio, and Florida but so far no one has handed me the money. I had lots of offers for trades but nothing I wanted.

Thanks Doug. I definitely like 56 Fords. Here's a pic of the one I used to have. This was a 27K mile original that I bought from the original owner, who was a neighbor of mine. It was totally original down to the tires and brake shoes when I got it but I had to change those, of course. I tried to buy it when he first moved in but he wouldn't sell it. He parked it under a tree, on dirt,

NICE! Let's see some more pics and give us some details about the build. Is it an automatic with O/D? Did it bolt up to the Hemi?

Jim, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. You've had a rough year with the passing of the two most important ladies in your life, but take comfort in the fact that they have gone on to a better place. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

John, that looks great. This might just be the angle of the pic, but shouldn't that alternator belt be on the rear groove. It looks a little crooked. It also seems to me that every time I've used a double groove pully with a simgle belt it always went on the rear groove.

Quotesoopernaut QuoteRuss I heard that commercial last night and wondered about that too. I wondered why they didn't say that they were the first with a crew cab and now have a new, better, yada yada yada ( add your own line here, LOL. I may be wrong about being the first, but I can't think of any others being offered by the manufacturer before 1961, when the first Dodge crews were off

My first thought was shift inkage problems since both reverse and park are at or near the extent of the shifter. I haven't been into one in a long time either but the last one I repaired was due to no reverse. In my case the reverse band had broken at the tab that the link pushes against, but I don't think this would cause Park to be difficult to engage.

Norm, Give me a little more credit than that, LOL. I know where the rack would have to attach to the spindles. I was only commenting that the tie rod on a "W" truck is already in front of the axle so might be more easy than a "D" to fit the rack ends to the arms on the spindle. The arms would already be in front of the axle and would already have the proper angle to maintain t

Robin, I'd like to see some more detailed pics, especially of the steering arms and how they are setup. This might be a possibile swap for a "W" since the tie rod is already in front of the axle.

That's a great looking truck. SWB Sweptline "W"s look so cool to me. Looks like someone has upgraded the axles to 8-lug. That's a nice score.

Thanks Robin, but that's a little too much of a project for me. I do like those Dodges like that but don't have the energy or desire to go through another restoration. If I do ever sell my truck and buy something else it will have to be driveable and road-worthy. I've always been a Mopar person for my daily transportation but I'm not so much when it comes to old trucks. My fir

This is off topic but might be of interest to someone. I'm posting this using NO Microsoft software at all. I'm using Linux operating system and Mozilla Firefox for my browser. This could not have been easier so don't worry if you are not into computers. In fact it's the easiest to load and use that I've ever seen. I haven't even installed it, I just put the CD in a

I let the CL ad for my truck expire and haven't made any other attempts to sell it. I had offers to trade it but no one with cash. Yes, I would still like to have a mid-fifties short bed half ton truck, something a little older than my 69 Swept but haven't really been looking. I haven't sold my truck and don't have room to have two projects at the same time. I would like t

That's a great looking truck,I always liked those late '50's W trucks. You don't usually find them in that good condition because most of them were used hard. I don't see any evidence that makes me think it was converted. I think I can see a sticker on the dash showing the transfer case shift pattern and I doubt that that would be there if it weren't original.

I understand Shartwig's thinking. None of us want to delibrately pollute the environment but I think in California they take things to the extreme. It seems that the people who make the laws regarding emissions there are not qualified to be making those laws. I'm thinking of them recently passing a law to make selling black paint for vehicles against the law, and to ban black cars becau

A good welder would probably be able to fix that if you could find one who would do it. He would grind the crack to a "V" so that the opening would be completely filled. He would also know what type of rod to use. My Dad was a welder and I've seen him repair engine blocks and other cast pieces like that, so it can be done. If it were me that would be the excuse that I would need

John, I'm very sorry to hear about that. Thank goodness for modern medical advances that allowed them to re-attach at least two of your fingers. I hope you will recover quickly and have full use of your hand. I'm around construction sites pretty often where most of the workers are from Mexico, and it seems that it is common for them to remove the guard completely and hold the wood in

That's cool. I've always liked those town panels but never had one. Keep the pictures coming as you progress through this build. I don't ever plan on restoring one that far again but I enjoy restoring trucks vicariously through you other guys. BTW, be careful. In that second pic it looks like the boards supporting the drivers side of the body is barely on the supports.

I agree with Terry on this one, especially about the nuisance of having to go buy, pay for, and mail a MO. I have heard from some here that they had some problems with PayPal, even Norm says he can't get an account set up but my experience with PP has been good and I have even avoided buying some items on Ebay when they stated that they didn't accept PP. I'm not sure that a seller

The wipers will go the park position when you turn on the ignition even if the wiper switch is in the off position. Do yours continue to run or were they just parking and you switched it back off before they stopped. The reostat in the light switch that controls the dash lights sometimes goes bad, usually before the rest of the light sitch does. It could be that someone wired them to a switche

"What year is the 440, balanced/blueprinted, steel crank? What kind of intake/exhaust manifolds, exhaust, cam, carb, ignition, gauges, etc?" The 440 came out of a low mileage 76 Chrysler. It was not an HP engine, the crank is cast. The crank and cylinders showed no wear at all so I used stock size bearings and rings. The machine shop honed the cylinders, I used the original pistons.

Some folks think I'm foolish because because I think my truck is too nice to drive off-road, through mud and woods. Now, would anyone buy that truck and drive it through mud and woods? I wouldn't. That truck has survived too long to be abused now. It would be a shame to destroy that nice original condition surviver. BTW, from looking at the pic of the inside of the bed, with the

I don't have any idea who might have my old W100. I remember that he liked Sweptline era Dodges and lived about 75 miles north of the Atlanta area. My old 67 was owned when new by the power company and was originally a /6 with three-on-the-tree. It had a 318 /4spd when I got it. I missed that truck after I sold it and wanted another W100, but I also wanted an Adventurer. I bought my Adv

I don't know why Scott would have done that. There's a "trucks for sale by forum members" section on his site. Are you sure he didn't just move it to the for sale section?

Gordo, It might be a good thing to let the forum users know about a truck that you have for sale before Ebaying it but it isn't necessary or un-friendly to Ebay it first. It doesn't seem like too many trucks are sold through the forum because most of us already have one or more Sweptlines and usually don't have the $$$ to buy it anyway.
