Started project "swap tired but faithful 318 for a strong and mean 340" this morning! Getting ready to drop my NP435. The book says to pull the shift stick while its engaged in a gear and not neutral. Is this correct and why? Also, I know now that my 4 speed is a 435, found it on the door tag. Whats the difference beteen the 420 and 435?? Thanks all and Merry Christmas

I want to get a new harness because mine is old, tired, and wore out, like those girls I like to hang out with! I just dont trust my harness and it looks bad. I want to have a reliable truck I can drive anywhere. In changeing to electronic will that take away the god alwful surging problem I have in the charging system? My truck is so bad that at an idle the lights very in bightness and

I kinda like the idea of the electronic because its more hidden. There would be nothing under the hood. I believe the electronic box can be put under the dash. Yes, the kit is a little more but for the look I want (hidden) and the relief my loud pedal knee will get, its worth it. Ron

Exactly! When are you going to run over 4500, not me in my truck. The reason I was going to keep the 318 manifolds is thats whats on it now. It the port size is a lot different, I will change, if not that much different, I may gasket match them. Well see. Ron

Dakota Digital Has electric cruise controls with the option of bottons on the stalk or dash mount. I guess the big descision is if I go vacuum or electric. The dakota ones are around $245. Fish

How many buttons and where did you mount them on the JC whit. cruikse??? Did it look good? I know what your talking about on long range drives and no cruise. Its my knee that talks. Im 6'3 with size 13s. These trucks were coustom built for Don Knotts, not us tall guys! Some day Im going to drive my truck to Chry. and Carlise which is a 5 hour haul but not without cruise control.

Great Ideas and thoughts. Never thought about the slow advance on the distributer. Carb will be a smaller (625?) AVS. I also love the Carters because you can adjust them so easily. I am going to simply keep my stock 318 exaust maniflolds and already have 2.5 pipe. Ive got an ample supply of 360 heads I can use. I will have to CC them and see what kind of compression I will get compared to th

Anyone put cruise control on your trucks? Long range drives (anything over 30 minutes) are hell on my gas ped. knee. I would like to be able to stretch out. Any body use a good aftermarket system or salvage a stock old mopar system? My biggest concern is where to put the on/off bottons. I have an early 65. Thanks. Fish

Guys, With the new engine going into my truck I want to convert over to electronic ignition. My wire harness is old, brittle, and looks bad. I dont want to salvage it, just buy new. Who do you recommend to use for a custom new harness that is set up for electonic ignition. Thanks fish

HI guys, Ive been very busy and had my lap top crash. In the process of getting a new one, just have not kept in touch. Heres the latest on my early 65. I was going to go 360 route and after all the good posts on how to handle the flywheel balance issue, I hate to tell you I am going 340 route now. My plan is to use the 340 short block out of my cuda and put stock top end on it for the truck

I went to a local mom and pop parts store instead of the AutoZone / advanced auto parts chain. The mom and pop store said 65 - early 70s are the same and had 2 in stock. It was the correct wheel cylinder. I taught my 9 year old daughter how to pump the brake P while I manned the bleeder. Shes a natural. John, My address is Ron Vargo 2524 Spade Road

I had a drivers side wheel cyl puke on me. Kept me from driving it to Columbus last weekend. When getting a new one, the parts store gave me one with the brake line hole off set at an angle. My original has the brake line hole directly under the bleeder going straight out. We looked up every year and couldnt get one with the hole coming straight out below the bleeder until 1970. They had it i

Well, I made it to the nationals without my truck. I had a wheel cyl puke on me and couldnt find the right one in time. I hooked up with Ben Friday. It was just a few degrees shy of hell at that track. We were tired, hot and hungry when Mopar Muscle mag. called Ben and asked to do a photo shoot. Ben and I took off in the HPP to meet the photographer at 6:00 PM. 3 hours later, the photo shoo

No brainer. Come just to hang out Ben, Bens dad, and I !!!!! I have been to probably a dozen nationals. Ive seen them grow bigger and bigger. My first was in 1983. At that time, when you entered you could run down the track as many times as you wanted. That year I bet I took my cuda down the track 12 times each day!!!! NO more!!!! It was smaller then but now, the place is packed to th

I had a KN oil type sponge filter on my 99 quad cab. They recommeded that you didnt oil it down often at all. I know it was around 50,000 miles or more untill you were supposed to re-oil the filter. Fish

I just put the hood on my truck and cruised all night long. I love my truck. I will be taking it to columbus, even if I burn a quart every 50 miles to get there. I havent tried to put a heavier wt oil in yet, that may help. Maybe 20w50. Fish

Thats exactly what my hinges are doing. The stops go besides one another because the rivits are wore. This winter when I do the engine swap, I will either re-press the rivits or put new ones in to make it tighter. My nieghbor brazed in the nuts, did a good job.

Well, I tore into my 360. Yuck. Carbon deposits that look like coal chunks stuck in the lifter galley. More deposits in the cylinder walls, thats why it wont turn over. Drained the water, looked like thick orange syrup. Im going to do a rebuild. So. I will most probably have the machine shop internally balance the rotating assembly. This will happen this winter. Ill keep you posted.

I called the manufacturer. They said that this balance plate is a hot item. They are frequently sold out. In the past 6 months they have sold approx. 30 of them. They have had no complaints. I asked about starter gear mesh and length of crank/flywheel bolts. They said this is not a problem. They also sell this type of fix for chevys and have had no complaints. I am going to go on the mopar
