for autos, I was always taught at long as engine was running coasting in neurtral was fine, its when engine is off that you can run into problems because the pump is not pumping. But, Im not a tranny expert. John, This a good question for your chaps at Top Gear. Ron

The inside of my doors had the factory coating all broke in pieces laying on the bottom of the door. When you shut the door, it sounded like it was broken glass moving around. I got tired of hearing it and pulled the inside cover to clean it out. What ever chrysler used it was thick and heavy. Alomost the size of thin peanut brittle. My doors dont have any of this left and I dont have the fog

Ive found 2 clutch fans in my parts pile. One is a newer off set 5 blade and the other is a bigger 7 blade. Any way to bench test these and see if they are still good? Both turn stiff and tight untill about 10-20 revolutions then they spin much more freely. They both have a little wiggle / looseness in them after spinning but from my experience with clutch fans all do this. I want to put a c

Im restoring a set of vintage MT valvecovers for my new 360 power house. They are cleaning up and polishing NICE!!!! Look like chrome. Would you spray a protector clear coat on them or just leave alone and hand ploish when they get dirty. I havent had much luck with the spray can clear coats on intake manifolds. Any suggestions. Thanks Fish

I get the picture now!!! Thanks for all the detail. Im pulling my gauge today to see what connector is on it, it should be factory yet. I either run rubber or copper. The main thing is I want to bring my origianl gauge back into service and see what my pressure more easily instead of having to look under the dash. Thanks again. Fish

Im not getting much of a answer here. Are you guys still using your stock set up with the rubber hose and factory gauge or do you have an aftermarket gauge set up with a plactic hose??? How can a rubber hose have a crimped end??? is there a clamp on the end?? Fish

It would make since to me that if the mounts are the original 1965 rubber pieces that If I replaced them I would see a difference in quality of ride. The rubber will have lost any of its shock absorbing properties and I will feel more of a firm metal on metal ride. This is what Im betting. Im going to look through chrysler first then Ill try roberts and ebay. Thanks!!!!! Fish

How was the rubber attatched to the block and gauge? With a small hose clamp?? Was it just pushed on tight? This rubber hose looks like its been on there for the duration just hanging. It was not attatched but the rubber is very brittle, old, crunchy. Any of you guys still running this type of set up??? Fish

One of the goals I have for my truck is to make it more functional and comfortable. I have a lot of cab noise and a very harsh ride I feel is greater than what it should be. Looking under the cab I found that one of the rear cab mount bolts has been loose, The gap between the washer and bolt head is about 1/8 inch. Simply tightening this may give me results. The front mounts are just thin pat

It appears the original factory oil pressure gauge had a rubber hose directly attatched to the block on my 65. Ive been running a aftermarket gauge. To hook the factory gauge up is it as simple as putting a barbed nipple fitting in the block and sending the rubber hose to the gauge? Any problems with leakage to the factory gauge? Id like to run it this way if possible and clean up the undern

Russ, I kinda like my 90 plus degree hood. Its a conversation piece at car shows when I show them You could pull engine without taking the 10 acre hood off and Oh how easy it is to do any work at all under there. I think Ill pass on your hinges. Fish

Hey guys, I like it when you dont all agree. It makes me think for my self. It would be far worse if everyone said yes and you never got the other side of the picture. Makes it kind of entertaining also Russ, Im enterested in those hinges. Shoot me a price with shipping please. Are they the 90, 75, 60, or 40 degree hinges???? Fish

There would be no problem with the J 340 heads as pistons in the 360 do not even come near to the top of the deck. I dont think Im going headers as I dont want leaks or problems. I have a set of 68 340 swoopy style exasust man. Im going to use. Thanks for giving me reassurance that any block is OK as long as I get the rear sump pan and pick up. Fish

No, the hinge still moves untill the lower lip of the hood touches the body of the upper hinge and this stops it. By this time at at around 110 degrees. The rivits do look wore out. I may have my neighbor heat them up and press the end to make a tighter fit, or buy new rivets. Fish

OK guys, Ive got to take the 360 into the shop withen 2 weeks to get her done by April. I have a 1986 360 truck motor that was a 4bbl I can use for the rebuild or a 360 car motor. Is there any differnce in the block and crank???? If I use the car motor can I put the truck oil pick up and pan on it???? The car block is already cleaned and ready to go, the truck block is a sludge crud mess that

On a serious note, I did put in a autoZone special electonic distributor and the reluctor spun on the shaft. When it happened i just started to miss fire like crazy, didnt have a clue what went wrong. Luckily, no major problems but had to tow her home. Cheap parts are just that, cheap parts. Fish

My hood will go way past 90 degrees untill the lip of the hood finally hits the back of the hood hinge, this is how it stops. Shouldnt there be a catch somewhere in the hinge to stop it at 90 degrees? I dont think the hood was designed to go past 90 as there is a lot of weight and stress placed on the 4 bolt holes in the hood past 90. Ive seen hoods with these holes/nuts pulled out from the we

Heres one argument for points. Im not perinoid or anything, but what if an EMP hits our country. Electronic ignition systems would be fried. In this case wouldnt it be good to have one vehicle with points. Survival Fish

the 318 in my truck is a 1972 casting block. It has a vibration dampner that has 3 balance holes or divits drilled in it. It has a lengthed pully boleted on to the dampner that sticks out a few inches with leg like extentions. Ive never seen a bottom pully like this before. Does this sound like its externally balalanced? Do you know what year 318s were changed to external? I know 340s were

am I right that you cant swap 318 and 360 oil pans because of rear main bearing size?? I have a neighbor that needs a 318 truck pan and I have an extra 360 truck pan but I dont think it will work. Fish

Well, Im still not settled on what engine to use in my truck. I have access to a 340 that would be a drop in with no rebuild needed. I would put in my own RV cam, heads and intake. This would be the cheap way to go. The 340 is a 8:1 motor and runs good, carries good pressure, is my brothers so I know the motor. I have 2 360s lying around the garage. I would have to totally rebuild the 3

55. UPDATE
Well, I had to pull the hump out anyway. No way it would slide out without that hump gone. That was the hardest part of the whole job. Only 4 bolts holding the tranny on and no crossmember. This has to be the easiest thing to pull ever made. I also got the shifter out using my bare fingers, no channel locks!!!! Fish

for those of you who want a sport rear bumper but cant find one, do what I did. Use a front bumper on the rear. It looks factory perfect. I had a weld shop put my rear bumper brackets on it. You cant tell its not a factory option. My front bumper is chrome, my rear is painted primer. It looks great. But.... Half my truck is also in primer!!! Fish

My opinion, The least no. of barrels the least head ache you will get. If you arnt going to change cam or do head work, or bolt on heaaders, I cant see getting any more perfomance by just dumping in more gas with a 4bbl.

It would be a lot more work to keep the shifter in. I have carpet, I would have to take it out. There is about 6 bolts that keep the hump in maybe more. The shifter is just a push and counter clock wise turn on cup and its supposed to pull out. That sounds like the way to go for me. Fish

Yep, My 2nd is synchro but not 1st. 1st is also very low, granny gear for me. I never start out in it unless pulling trailer. I also pulled the stick out while in neutral when I put the clutch in it 3 years ago with no problems. I wonder why the man. says to engage it in a gear??? Fish
