I dispute a 2bbl having more torque than a 4bbl. When the secondaries are closed... it is a 2bbl. Perhaps better as the venturies are sized smaller.
Norm is right, I wanted the smallest RB so I could get the longer stroke with the smallest bore. I wasn't actually planning on a rebuild of this engine. I will have the heads checked out, and will find out if it has timing chain or gears in it. Camshaft if not flat can stay in there. I did notice that the distributor turns the same way as the 383, I don't know which way the camshaft turns....
The 383 pulls! real good if I can keep the RPM up. That can be difficult to do when loaded down. Imagine rock crawling with a truck that is probably over 10,000 lbs
