Well, I did not know the VINs were stamped anywhere on these trucks other than the ID Tag, so you already answered the question. This is the reason and benefit to being in this forum with guys like yourself that have specific knowledge on these trucks. Do you know where it is stamped at on the frame? I assume the D100 have their frames stamped too? Better yet, what else is stamped with the VIN on these trucks? These are things I did not know or care about when I was 16, but do now. I am trying to understand the differences in models so I know what can and cannot interchange and still end up with the proper 1966 model I want. As you know, many of these truck are rusted out, or just beat up and piecing one together might have to happen. The more I know the more I can weigh my options, and be a knowledgeable buyer. Specifically, I may have an option on a 1966 "basket case" (meaning not much left salvageable) and a D200 parts truck but didn't know what all would interchange.
The VIN on a late 1965 and 1966 may be sequential and yes, the trucks are the same but they are different years, and I know that is defined on the VIN. A 1966 is what I had and it is what I am staying after. Heck, there are members here that only want a specific color, why is that? I know it's out there and I will find it. How long it will take is the question.
