On my Poly 318 (believe it’s a 318-3, early 60’s), it is missing the dowel pins that extend from the block and help locate/align the timing cover. There is a slight oil leak because of this that is constant when the engine is running. 1/4 machinist’s quality dowels are a little loose; can push them

The other option is to knurl them, then press them in.
There only for alignment, so they're not supporting any strength.
