Like you, I decided to update my stock front end to coil-overs and rack and pinion steering to get more performance: over 80 mph and my totally rebuilt front suspension was scary! It is not a crown vic conversion and it was pricey but OMG was it worth it: no wandering, disc brake make stopping at speed less sketchy, etc. I took my 68 to Martz in Bedford PA if you're interested in getting an idea on how much.
