The metal wouldn't necessarily get soft after being bent out of shape only one time. It may get progressively weaker as it is bent repeatedly, but only one bend may not noticeably weaken, at least to the point of being able to feel it with your hands.
In addition one can't know what the normal resistance to bending is unless a good blade is also bent, so it's impossible to tell if the one blade is seriously weakend compared to others that are untested.
There are only three possible causes: a mechanical force applied in some way, or metal fatigue, or both.
Magnafluxing or other processes are required to positively show metal fatigue before a failure, or to analyze the cause of a failure due to metal fatigue.
I'd still count the neighborhood cats, see if one is missing or walking funny, maybe the one with the short tail and the chronic twitch....
